It has a clear protective coating that will scratch with scrubbies and chip off when boiled at high stove heat an pot in water with vinegar and hymalayan salt. I probably over cleaned them plus I clean boiled them in the same pot with some copper cups and a copper water bottle but they have a great taste and they are durable.
